Hi everyone, I hope you're all having a great week! It's almost Friday which means fun stuff is ahead. Today on this post, i'm going to show you how to create a living space with 550 sq ft. My daughter Leslie decided it was a good idea to move. She thinks she's too old to live with her parents. For me, it was difficult to let her go because I always thought my daughters would move out already married. My husband helped me see that it's a good idea to let her be on her own. Why I thought? Well because they would become more responsible, and not be so dependent on us. If anything were to happen to us, we would know she is capable of surviving on her own. If I kept her here at home and gave her everything she wanted, she wouldn't know how to live her own life. Anyways, let's talk about her first apartment.
Her apartment is only 550 sq ft. She sacrificed the space for the neighborhood. She's in downtown Sacramento. It's a very beautiful area and of course everything is near by. It's a really small apartment, so as soon as we found out she was approved, we went to HomeGoods to buy all the essentials. Well we ended up finding more than that.
Her style is vintage and minimal. She's always liked vintage. Every since she was a little girl she's been like that. Maybe it has to due with the fact that I loved listening to old school music when I was pregnant with her. When she was a year and a half, her favorite song was "red red wine". Isn't that funny? But she's always been like that and continues to be. She's definitely about the peace & love.
As you can see, her apartment is tiny so I had to figure out how to get all the necessities in there without making the space look too cramped. The kitchen and living room are together. I put her dining room table up against the window so she can look out the window when she's having dinner. I only put two chairs, because it is only her. But it's also good for when she has company she has an extra chair.
The couch isn't very big but it seats 3 people easily. I got her a small bench for extra seating. Her bedroom isn't small, it's a regular sized bedroom. So right now I'm working on making her a small work station on the end of the bed since she has the space for it and that way she won't be at the kitchen table all the time.
She moved during the winter time, so I put some velvet blue curtains up. Now that summer came around, I changed her curtains to adapt to the weather. I decided on a lighter color with touches of pink which is her favorite color. Now the apartment looks softer and with more light.
This is one of my favorite pieces of the house. Of course it's vintage. This dresser was bought a thrift store on special, 50% off so it came out to $50! We bought a small bucket of paint and gold spray for the legs, gave the handles a good cleaning, and it looks brand new. It turned out super cute don't you think?
Of course we couldn't leave out John F. Kennedy. She is a big fan of his.
