It's very difficult to maintain your kitchen clean & organized. Especially when you have little kids. If you know me, you know that I am a very organized person and I don't like my house being dirty at any time. Even when my kids were little, my house was always maintained clean and organized. I taught them to put their toys away as soon as they are done playing with them. Needless to say, they learned very quickly and did just that! If you have little kids, start showing them early to put things away when they are not being used and they will be sure to thank you as they get older.
I try to keep everything visible and at my reach. If I put stuff away were I don't see it for a while, it will never get any use and I would be storing things that I don't need. The kitchen is were you have almost everything and it's also the place were your family is always hanging out. That's why it's always a good idea to have it organized and with everything in reach so it's easier on everyone.
Open shelves is always a good idea to maintain dishes you may need at hand. Not to mention it looks beautiful. Fill your shelves with your favorite dishes and they will make your kitchen pop. In my kitchen, I filled my shelves with plates I bought at HomeGoods in white. I like to have everything white so I could add any color I want as often as I'd like. I also feel that if you buy colored dishes or cups, they eventually go out of style and you're left with something you don't want anymore. I recommend you always go with white. It's definitely in style right now!
Cooking books are also a great thing to add to your open shelves. Just make sure they aren't exposed to the humidity of the fridge, or the grease of the stove.
Put the dishes that you use the most in the bottom portion of your shelves and the ones you use on special occasions towards the top. A good idea is to have a small folding stool next to your fridge where it's out of sight. That way you have it handy when you need to reach something that's too high.
Group objects based on purpose and assign them to specific areas of your cabinets so you have an idea of were everything is when you need it. Everything in it's own place.
Make a zone around your stove were all of the pots and pans are at arms reach and near you when you are cooking.
Assign a special drawer near your fridge with plastic bags and aluminum foil, wax paper, etc. This way it's easier to grab something from the fridge, wrap it, and go.
Keep your scissors, pens, and sticky notes handy. It's always a good idea to have a special drawer for this as well with all your office supplies. Makes it easier to jot down anything you need.
